This is the most natural of the traditional topiary shapes, and when the right plant species is used can be the simplest to maintain. Once the plant has reached a level of maturity that the first clipping can take place, all subsequent trimming will follow the angles and curves established by that initial cut, with the plant's natural growth tending to maintain the integrity of the shape thereafter. The normal adage of "little and often" holds true for any specimen, but the cone can offer the luxury of a strong visual effect based upon just two or three clippings a year.
Plant Species
A wide variety of conifers lend themselves well to cone-shaped topiary, since it exploits their natural tendencies, and the regimented stand of Yew pictured here illustrates the point well. However, Bay and Box are also amenable to trimming into cones, and we offer all three. |
