The man who does the real work at Oxford Planters is Leon Pierce, a local lad who is following in his dad’s footsteps in his ambition to pursue the craft of joiner. Fondly referred to as a workaholic, Leon joined the business in 2007 as joiner come manager of the newly built workshop and has been busy burning the midnight oil, hand crafting beautiful wooden planters to Alex and Martin’s blueprints ever since. His new year’s resolution is to go out more and he’s itching to say spend more time with his family but is worried in case this is taken the wrong way implying departure.
At twenty-seven Leon doesn’t actually look old enough yet to shave but he has already acquired a wife, son and daughter who he likes nothing better than to pile into the car at the weekend and enjoy a day at the seaside. He cites teaching his son and daughter to roller-skate and ride a bike (though not necessarily at the same time) as his greatest accomplishments. When not working on his quest to make the perfect planter, he can be found playing pool or watching a game of footie at the local pub. He says he has a passion for cars – although strangely drives a Honda? – and has a lifelong ambition to be the proud owner of a VW camper van.
